Accountant for jewellers, jewellery shops and workshops

A jewellery business may combine retail sales, bespoke orders, repairs and valuable goods held for others. Bocon helps discuss the accounting records behind these different activities from its office in Antwerp.

Distinguish sales, bespoke work and repairs

Selling owned stock is different from repairing a piece that remains the customer's property. Bespoke orders may involve separate material, deposit and completion terms. Clear descriptions connect financial records to the actual activity. We ask how work is carried out, as well as which invoices are available.

Valuable items and third-party goods

Records should identify which items belong to the business and which are held for a customer or supplier. Use article or job-sheet references where appropriate and retain receipt, handover and settlement agreements. Bocon discusses the level of detail useful for your accounts without prescribing one system or valuation method for every jeweller.

Trace returns and alterations

A ring may be resized, an order changed or a sale reversed. Keep the original transaction and correction together to explain amounts, labour and refunds. Traceable events also help investigate differences between a retail report and a payment-provider settlement.

Reconcile sales channels

Online and in-store reports may cover the same items. A reservation is not automatically a sale, and a provider payout may be net of fees. Bocon discusses how existing records can support the accounts without processing the same information twice.

Meet us with practical examples

Bring an ordinary sale, a bespoke order and a repair where these form part of your business. Identify goods you own and goods held for others, and explain settlement terms. This helps define the support you need and any missing records. Client names and confidential details are not used as marketing material.

Documents to prepare

  • Sales reports and payment settlements
  • Bespoke order and repair job sheets
  • Ownership and custody arrangements
  • Stock counts, returns and credit notes

Questions for your first meeting

Should customer-supplied materials be included in my owned stock?

Not automatically. Ownership and the agreed work must be clear, with an identifiable record of goods received and returned.

Can my webshop report also cover the shop?

Check which transactions each system contains and any overlap. The reports must be reconciled before choosing the accounting basis.
